Integrated Media Environment Lab (Uranishi Lab) focuses on “creating new environments by integrating and utilizing media.” It addresses various issues in VR, augmented reality, HCI, and robotics, and works on applying these solutions to various fields.
XR
We conduct research on information presentation technologies using HMDs as foundational technologies for skills acquisition support and EduMetaverse, utilizing XR (AR, VR, MR) technologies. This includes the measurement and recognition of environments and objects, as well as techniques for information presentation.
Human-Computer Interaction
Our laboratory is engaged in cross-sectional and interdisciplinary research spanning advanced information media technologies (such as 3D user interfaces, XR systems, and haptics), interaction design, experience design methodologies, and human understanding for creating novel interactions.

Robotics
We conduct research on robotics and robot learning using multimodal information such as visual and haptic data.
Computer Vision
To build media environments, we conduct research on the measurement of the shape and material of environments and objects, as well as the reproduction and imitation of light behavior.

Educational Technology , Information Education
Educational technology is “the study and ethical practice of facilitating learning and improving performance by creating, using, and managing appropriate technological processes and resources (Richey, 2008).” Especially our lab works on developing systems that support education and learning. Also, we conduct research in the field of learning analytics, which investigates information gathered from teachers and learners via ICT, which can be analyzed and fed back in ways that enhance instruction and learning. Furthermore, we research comprehensible lessons and educational materials in computer science education from elementary school to early university years.
