A New System for Interactive VR Applications Using a Compact Hemi Spherical IPD (CyberDome)

Abstract

This paper aims at introducing a compact embedded system using cluster of desktop computers and Immersive Projection Technology(IPT) for real scale visualization and real time interaction of several VR applications. Total system consists of a) Hemi Spherical IPD - Cyber Dome b) Software modules for distortion correction and synchronization c) Database for specific application modules d) Interaction device. With the help of distortion correction software, the system is capable of displaying life size, stereoscopic, distortion free and high quality images on the screen with a wide field of view. The paper also explores the potential practical use of this system by demonstrating a few applications in which the developed system is already being used. (pdf file)
